Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 1, 2026
This policy describes how IATSE Local 122 ("Local 122", "the Local", "we") collects, uses, and protects personal information. It covers our websites at ia122.org and its subdomains, our member portal, and our text messaging programs. It is written for our members, referral-hall registrants, and anyone else whose information we hold in the course of running the Local.
Who we are
IATSE Local 122 is a labor union chartered by the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, representing stagecraft workers in San Diego, California. Contact information is at the end of this policy.
Information we collect
We collect and hold the information needed to operate a union and a referral hall:
- Membership records: name, contact information, membership status, classification, and dates of membership events.
- Contact details: mailing address, email address, and phone numbers, including a mobile number if you provide one.
- Referral and work records: availability, skills and certifications, dispatch offers and responses, work history on referred calls, and steward reports.
- Financial records: dues, fees, assessments, payments, and related transaction history.
- Portal account information: login identifiers and account activity needed to operate and secure your account.
We collect this information directly from you (enrollment and registration forms, the member portal, communication with the office), from your work on referred calls (steward and payroll reporting), and from employers under our collective bargaining agreements.
How we use it
We use personal information to run the Local: operating the referral hall and dispatching work, maintaining membership records, collecting dues and fees, administering benefits and training, conducting union governance, communicating with members, and meeting our legal obligations as a labor organization.
Text messaging
If you provide your mobile number and agree to receive texts, we send you messages such as job dispatch offers, call time and schedule changes, and notices related to your membership, such as dues and meeting notices.
- Message frequency varies with available work; typically a few messages per week.
- Message and data rates may apply.
- You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message. Reply HELP for help, or contact the office.
- Receiving texts is not a condition of membership. Opting out of texts does not affect your membership or your place in the referral process, though the office may not be able to reach you as quickly about work.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile opt-in data and consent are not shared with or sold to anyone for marketing. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are shared only with service providers acting on our behalf to deliver the messages, and for no other purpose. Our text messaging terms are at SMS Terms.
Who we share information with
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing. We share it only:
- With service providers who process it on our behalf and under our instructions, such as our messaging carrier, payment processor, and hosting providers.
- With the International and affiliated bodies as required by the IATSE Constitution and our bylaws.
- With employers and their payroll companies to the extent required to dispatch you to work and see that you are paid under a collective bargaining agreement.
- When the law requires it, such as reporting obligations that apply to labor organizations, or a lawful subpoena or court order.
How long we keep it
We retain records for as long as they are needed to run the Local and to meet the record-keeping obligations that apply to labor organizations. Membership, financial, and work records are kept as durable union records.
How we protect it
Personal information is held in access-controlled systems, limited to the staff and officers who need it for their work. Especially sensitive records, such as Social Security numbers we hold in connection with payroll paperwork, are stored separately with additional restrictions.
Your choices
You can review and update your contact information through the member portal or by contacting the office. You can opt out of text messages at any time as described above. Questions or requests about your information can be directed to the office.
Children
Our websites, portal, and messaging programs are for adults and are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the updated version here with a new effective date.
